Spring Rolls

Hello and Happy Monday!  I hope your weekend was wonderful and you had the opportunity to have some fun.  This weekend I had a chance to play in my Art Journal.  I've created a page featuring some quirky images from Studio Light Art by Marlene.

I prefer to cut a panel of watercolor card and create the page outside my journal; once complete, I then adhere the panel inside the journal.  The journal pages are thick watercolor paper also and can handle water, paint, etc. but I prefer this way of creating my pages.

To start the background, I adhered a piece of Collage Paper from Art by Marlene.  The paper is blue so I had that much of the background ready to go.  I stamped images, words and did a bit of stenciling with texture paste and brushed watered down pink acrylic paint over the panel.

Washi Tape was added as a place to "ground" the images.  I've added splatters with white and black acrylic paint.  The images were arranged on the panel and picked up with Press and Seal Plastic Wrap.  This is a great way to pick up images once you have them arranged the way you want.

Using Matte Gel Medium, I've adhered the images and went over the entire panel with the gel medium.  I needed the panel to become non-porus so I could do some highlighting with my Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens.

Once the gel medium was completely dry (it must dry completely or the tips of the markers will be ruined), I highlighted around the images and touched up the colored areas that became a bit subdued with the matte medium.

Lastly, I've adhered the sentiment strips, which are from the Art by Marlene Sticky Quotes Sticker Pad.  I absolutely love the sentiment and when paired with this Curvy Lady (who resembles me in my swimsuit although I don't have the courage to wear a 2 piece), it puts a huge smile on my face...and that's what Art Journaling is about for me...having fun, experimenting with techniques and letting the creativity flow.

Until next time, Happy Crafting!

Colour Crazy Challenge - Ching Chou Kuik

Hi Crafty Friends and Welcome to Friday!  I hope this is the beginning of your weekend and you have something fun planned.  Today begins a new challenge at The Colour Crazy Challenge Blog and our sponsor this fortnight is Ching Chou Kuik.  For my project, I've used the Keep in Faith digital image to create a page for my Art Journal.

I still have the People and Country of Ukraine on my heart and in my prayers so this page was created with them in mind.  I think the sentiment describes them perfectly.

I don't work directly on the card that's in my journal, I prefer to cut pieces of watercolor card measuring 5.25" x 7.75" and work on that, then adhere to a page in my journal.  Here I'm using a Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Art Journal and the pages can handle the products but I prefer to work outside of the journal first.

To start my process, I've colored the digital stamp using alcohol markers, fussy cut and set aside to work on the background.  I've used Catherine Pooler Inks in shades of yellow and orange and the smooshing technique to create a subtle background.  The background was too bright for my liking so I dry brushed white gesso over top and allowed to dry.

After the background was dry, I stenciled and splattered, set aside to dry again and set out to fussy cut some ephemera.  I have loads of ephemera in my stash so I picked out some vintage images I thought would look nice with my composition.

Using Gel Mat Medium, I've adhered all images and washi tape to the background.  I've covered the images with gel medium because I wanted to use my PITT Artist Markers to highlight the images and to be able to smear the india ink in the markers, the syrface needs to be non-porous.

For the finishing touches, I've added gold sequins and a sentiment from a booklet of sentiment strips by Tim Holtz.  That's all for my journal page...it's complete and now living comfortably in my journal.  Do you Art Journal?

Please visit us this round at The Colour Crazy Challenge, we hope to inspire you with our projects.  Until next time, Happy Crafting!

You Light Up the World!

Hello and Happy Wednesday!  Today, I'm sharing an Art Journal page I've created using images from Art by Marlene.  It's been a very long time since I've had a play and created a page for my journal, so I decided to get inky and create something colorful.

I cut a 5x7" piece of heavy watercolor card so I could adhere it into my journal as I typically do not use the actual pages in the journal.  The pages of the journal can handle the products but I prefer to use a separate piece of card and adhere to the journal page.

I've colored the panel with Dylusions Ink Sprays to create the base color and after completely dry, I started adding stamped images using Ranger Archival Inks in black and coordinating colors to the background.

I've splattered the dried panel with White and Black Acrylic sprays and after dry, I started adhering fun images from Art by Marlene, using Matte Gel Medium on top and bottom.  I wanted the images to become non porous so I could use my PITT Artist Markers later to add highlights and shading.

To finish up my art journal page, I've added a black border and some white highlights to the images with a White Gelly Roll Pen.  I hope to make more art journals in the future, it was so nice to just have a play with my inks and mixed media products.

Until next time, Happy Crafting!

Art Journal Page - Sing Your Song

I've recently discovered Art Journaling (yeah..I know....I'm a little behind the trend) and have decided to start keeping one.  I enjoy mixed media and it seems the thing to do is keep an Art Journal to assist with the experimenting of different mediums and keep track of progress.

Here is my first official Art Journal, the Strathmore Softcover 500 Series Mixed Media Art Journal: ( Dick Blick Art Products )

And here is my first official 2 page layout in my new Mixed Media Art Journal:

I had great fun creating the layout.  The bird image is from the Cricut Baby Shower cartridge, the birdhouse comes from the Cricut April Showers cartridge and the branch with flowers from the Cake Basics cartridge.

I used acrylic paints for the background colors, white gesso with a piece of bubblewrap for the circle texture.  Ranger archival ink was used with an unbranded foliage stamp, with the border stamp from IndigoBlu (a Limor Webber Design) and the lettering stamps from Echo Park.  Mixed Medium Gel was used over the images to create a non-porous surface so details with archival pens could be used as well as sealing the entire layout.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you'll follow this blog and come back soon.
